As part of the REMEX Group of companies, MAV is an important supplier of material from track ballast processing in Germany. The disused ballast accepted at the Kelheim and Lünen sites is processed in our specialised recycling facilities in compliance with all legal and ecological requirements and can be used as recycled track ballast not only in track beds but also in a wide variety of construction projects.
Recycled track ballast is a good alternative to natural crushed stone, because after processing, old track ballast retains its original load-bearing capacity, frost resistance and weather resistance. Within the scope of processing, different fractions of construction materials are produced for different areas of application:
In order to be used as track ballast, the recycled track ballast must meet high quality requirements. For this purpose, the disused ballast is subject to a comprehensive treatment process. Our customers include Deutsche Bahn (DB), among others - and their technical guidelines allow only the highest quality material to be used as recycled track ballast in track construction. The use of our recycled track ballast as a construction material not only conserves natural resources – it is also significantly cheaper than natural stone. In addition, our customers benefit from freight advantages.
DB Netz AG, private transport companies and rail network operators as well as various track construction companies rely on our track ballast processing services.
As well as in the track bed, reprocessed old track ballast is also suitable for use in alternate applications, proving its worth:
in unbound layers as an antifreeze or gravel base layer
in hydraulically bound layers such as consolidation or concrete base layers
in bituminous bound layers such as asphalt base layers or asphalt surface layers
as bedding material for paving and paving sand
as substructure under foundation plates
for earthworks such as dams, backfillings, beddings, etc.
